I recently tried BROK the InvestiGator, and honestly, it is one of those games that feels very special. It is not just about fighting or puzzles, but everything is mixed and tied up neatly in a proper storyline. Action, role-playing game leveling, point-and-click adventure, and detective-style, all these bundled into one.
The world is set in a light cyberpunk future where animals have replaced humans. The wealthy live inside a dome, safe from polluted air; the poorer ones have to live outside, struggling to survive. Brok is a private detective who was once a boxer and raises Graff, his wife’s late child’s son. The factor that hooked me to the game was the mystery concerning the death of his wife. It looks like an accident at first, but as you slowly unravel the interconnecting threads, it appears to be part of something bigger and darker.
As I played, I noticed how the game afforded lots of choices in how to come to a solution. Logic now contains strength. You could be a logical puzzle solver, or you could punch your way through enemies. There were days when I wanted puzzles to be solved with thought, and other days, I wanted to fight. It changed things around a little for me.
