BLACK SOULS Overview
It is not your usual RPG. The whole story starts in a weird place called the Lost Empire. This place is very much thick with fog. And this fog is dangerous. The fog can turn humans into monstrosities and then destroy everything around them. This is why the world fell into despair.
People were fated to fight wars in it, and heroes scoured the earth for glory, while the nobles enjoyed their fictitious dreams, and treasures lay under locks. In the long run, everyone who entered this empire just vanished. No one returned.
That’s when you wake up as a nameless undead. It is scary because you don’t even know who you are. From here, the world is open for you to explore. You can decide where to go, who to meet, and how to survive. But be ready, this game is not built for happy endings.
The freedom in BLACK SOULS is something I really liked. You could choose a variety of classes, walk across open plains, and fight using a system that feels quite unique. Combat is based on Active-Time Battle-style measuring, and so you have to think fast, but now you’re on edge the whole time.
The coolest twist for me was the heroines. There are 21 of them, all linked to fairy tales like Alice in Wonderland, Little Red Riding Hood, and Snow White. But don’t expect the same sweet characters you know. Here, they are part of a dark fantasy setup that changes how you see them.
Everything you do in BLACK SOULS counts. There are several endings, and how the story is told depends on your actions. Dying is also part of the game-not the end. I initially found it frustrating to die, but after a few hours of play, I began to think of it as part of the story. It actually made the journey feel real.
