Dracula: End of Days is a dark survival horror game that plunges you directly into an icy wasteland where zombies rule. But it’s more than a monster-fighting game; it’s about Henry Tarnaki, a former quiet painter, now condemned to exist somewhere between human and vampire.
Honestly, when I played it, I felt it was much more emotional than most of the zombie games that I have tried. Henry is a father, and all his decisions are based on keeping his daughter Rose alive. The catch, however, is that his new vampire side manipulates him into yearning for blood, and every time he does that, he loses more of what makes him human. That makes you very thoughtful before acting, and I liked that.
Rose, his daughter, is arguably the best part of the story. She is just eight years old, yet she is courageous, fun, and even good at skiing. Somehow, she can remain cheerful in this dead world. It’s a heavy experience while playing because you can see her purity against Henry’s dark change.
The story becomes thicker with Luca Newman. At first, there was a survivor that was trusted-Rose even rescued him when he was half dead-but he just sold them out to Anderson Hill and finally became a Zombie King. That moment hits hard in the game because betrayal from humans feels worse than attacks from zombies.
Another terrifying hell is Anderson Hill, the so-called leader of a scavenger gang. A soldier before the apocalypse, he has now turned ruthless and bloodthirsty. He and his men steal, kill, destroy, and do everything possible to retain their control. Sometimes confronting him alone is scarier than against a whole horde of zombies.
That’s what makes Dracula: End of Days-the marriage of horror to flesh-and-blood emotional engagement. This is not blood and survival; this is a father trying not to lose his soul while making sense of the only person he saved from death.
