I played Herdling, and I found it to be one of those games that stay in your head even after quitting it. The company behind Okomotive is the same one that created the FAR games, and it was published by the same company that published Firewatch: Panic. After seeing those names, it was almost certain that the game would end up having a slightly different mechanism than other adventure titles.
The Very First Playing Experience of Herdling
It felt as if I were on a real quiet mountain journey when the game started-nothing loud, no long tutorials, just me and a herd of creatures called Calicorns. Initially, I assumed they would just be my companions, but after taking them through dangerous paths, I realized I should protect them as though they were my own pets.
That, of course, gave me a sense of reality. The foggy forests reminded me a little bit of the hills I visited with my family; when I traveled, you practically couldn’t see ahead-it was like being swallowed in mist. The paths of snow conjured memories of how difficult it really was to walk in heavy snow around you. All this helped to make the journey even more personal.
What Characterizes Herdling
The whole game involves leading and protecting a herd while trying to reach the summit of the mountain. The valleys, the snowy plateaus, and the dark woods surround you as you travel. All along the journey, you solve entry-level types of puzzles, which never feel too mundane. For me, the most exciting stampede moments were when the whole herd ran together. It kind of gave me that feeling of racing my friends at school, where we would just run without thinking about falling.
The story is non-verbal and uses the world and the adventures to depict everything. This fact was really great because you get to think and feel the story for yourself.

Definitely, Herdling isn’t just another adventure game. It feels like a container of how a journey should be experienced by just looking at it instead of merely playing it. So if you liked Firewatch or FAR: Lone Sails, you would get this as worth downloading.
