Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD: The game feels from a completely different world than its other brethren. I still remember the first time I installed it on my PC upon release; it was a handheld game, and the HD version gave it renewed life. The game takes place in 1765, in a tense time before the American Revolution.
The game allows you to step into the shoes of the series’ first female protagonist, Aveline de Grandpré. Unlike Ezio or Connor, she is biracial, with French and African heritage, making her storyline very much different from other Assassin’s Creed games.
Story and World
The story abounds in Louisiana, particularly in New Orleans, where Aveline stands against the encroaching Spanish forces, seeking control over the lands with the powers of an Assassin. The more I played it, the more I appreciated how different the setting felt. I wandered through crowded streets, traversed danger-infested swamps, and even visited old Mayan ruins.
On top of that, the use of the disguise system was just great. Aveline could change her persona, and by doing so, she altered the reaction of NPCs towards her. I remember using some lady disguise to blend in, and how funny it was that the guards ignored me in comparison to my full-on Assassin getup.
Key Features
Arsenal of Aveline: Weapons include machetes, whips, blowpipes, and pistols; the variety gives a free and stimulating experience in combat.
Tree Navigation: Climb trees and navigate through the environment for stealth attacks.
Exploration: Attack from all sides through the city streets of New Orleans, bayous, or ancient ruins while being chased by enemies and animals.
HD Upgrade: Along with better visuals, remastered sound, and updated missions, the HD version has more polishing aspects than the handheld release.
Deep Story: Missions deal with Aveline’s personal struggle alongside the political turmoil of New Orleans.
My absolute favorite part was the swamp. The Tree Navigation system allowed me to move around within the swamps, drop silently onto enemies, and experience the same exhilaration of parkour across the roofs in all the other Assassin’s Creed games.

Why You Should Play
Liberation HD is a great choice if you like your Assassin’s Creed, but not set in the traditional European or naval scenery. Aveline’s story feels grounded, and the Louisiana setting is refreshing. It may not be as big as Black Flag or Assassin’s Creed III, but it has its own charm.
I was glad I revisited the game as I found myself regretting the miniature Assassin’s Creed experiences where the character and atmosphere were really the focus. Not the never-ending maps. You may also be interested in: Scrutinized Free Download for Windows PC (Build 5417686)
