Quartet is originally a role-playing game with four very different stories that are somehow intertwined into one great tale over time. It feels like you’re playing unrelated adventures at first. There’s a train robbery that leads into a dark government secret, a girl who finds a strange deck of cards that shows her another world, and even airships flying across dangerous frontiers. Eventually, these paths come together, and you end up with eight heroes standing in the middle of a battle that has been going on for centuries.

I liked how the game doesn’t throw all the characters at you from the beginning. You start small, and each storyline adds something new. Once they connect, it really feels like you’ve built up to something larger.

Gameplay and Combat

The combat in Quartet seems quick and smart. You take four characters into battle while the other four stay in reserve. What I find great is that when you swap a hero, that hero will not just stand there. The hero immediately gets a turn and gains AP faster while waiting. You can plan ahead and switch in a strong fighter at the right time to land a heavy move.

You have to wait before the turn comes along, but you won’t feel it slow down. Because there is a queue on the side showing the next hero turns, you can plan without guessing. Each hero has different abilities, like elemental attacks, magic, or physical skills. Since AP comes back every turn, you’re not stuck saving your moves for later-you can actually keep using your best skills and rotate your team. I really liked this since it made fights more exciting.

Exploration and World

Fighting is by no means the whole of Quartet. Just as important is exploration. You will climb ropes, cross gaps, and hunt for secret paths where treasure or rare gear may lie, in which case you have to equip eight characters you will never have enough loot.

The world feels varied and very surprising. Steampunk towns, wild frontiers, buildings, cursed swamps, and even underground hideouts. The game does not stick to just one theme, and therefore, it kept me intrigued as I moved to new areas. At one moment, I was even controlling a hippo character, which made me laugh, honestly. It is not what you expect in an RPG, but, really, it made Quartet stand out.

My Experience with Play

When I started with my very first game of Quartet, I even thought that it would get too complicated-takes so many characters. However, it was, as it turned out, actually a very nice hook to keep me going: the slow, interwoven nature of the stories. Made fights feel fresh and exciting with the in-swap, instant AP recovery combat system. I also like that the game never punished me for going in with big attacks. Exploration had that “one more chest” feeling to it for sure, keeping me checking every little nook and cranny.

The RPG fans who love to get story-rich, along with party-based combat, should definitely check out Quartet on a PC. You may also be interested in: Medicus Free Download for Windows PC
