JAIL DICE: Roll to Break is a blend of action and strategy fused into dice mechanics and set with a rolling theme. Instead of controlling a usual character, you are in charge of machinery-shaped dice, which is the Dice-Rover. It travels through chaotic zones where combat with enemies is the norm, things are blown up, and loot is carried away in an effort to keep the Dice-Rover alive.
As you might guess, the enemies get progressively fiercer the longer you linger. I made that silly mistake early on in thinking that I could forever farm on it, and then lost everything by loitering too long. It certainly teaches one that the game is about risk versus reward.
Collect all 6 Golden Jewels so that you can advance. That’s the key to the next phase. Once you get them, you can return to the maintenance room where you upgrade your Dice-Rover.
Upgrades matter a lot in this game. I remember opening a shield upgrade, and all of a sudden, I was able to survive waves that previously crashed me. Every run, it feels there is something new you, which can change your play style, and as you keep going, you slowly uncover tiny details about the entire world of JAIL DICE and, to put it bluntly, what it means.
The gameplay loop is simple yet addictive-going in, fighting, gathering, escaping, upgrading, and repeating. Once the power of your Dice-Rover reaches a certain level, the last challenge that JAIL DICE presents gets underway. It feels to me like the real test of everything you’ve been putting together is going to come from that last boss.
