The moment I started Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster on my PC, I was hit with this feeling of being trapped in an utterly hopeless situation overrun with zombies. The action unfolds in Willamette, Colorado, where the U.S. Army locked down the entire town. You are Frank West, a photojournalist who sneaks into the mall in search of a giant scoop. But the mall has now turned into a nightmare, with zombies everywhere, and you have only 72 hours until help arrives.
During my first playthrough, I’d just run around the mall picking up random objects to smash zombies. One second, I would be shooting them with a shotgun, and the next, I’d be bashing them with a frying pan. These are some of the small, fun things in the game; you can essentially use anything lying in the vicinity.
Graphics Powered by RE Engine
Compared to the original, this remaster looks crisper. The new RE engine sharpens everything, from the facial details to the lighting inside the mall. Another factor is the fear evoked by hundreds of zombies rushing at you on-screen.
Easier and Smoother Gameplay
Control-wise and menu-wise, the game is much easier now. It has autosave, better controls, and even full voice acting, which keeps you immersed in the story. I found that compared to the previous one, I was less annoyed by trying to save survivors when they got themselves in trouble or by moving quickly.
Survive the Way You See Fit
The game gives you the freedom to use your 72 hours however you please: save survivors, take down psychopaths, or simply test out various weapons and costumes. The mall is humongous and free for exploration. Personally, smacking zombies with household items for fun really puts an amusing twist into the serious scenario.
