Hell is Us is an action-adventure game where one gets to see the world from a third-person perspective. It is a story of a player using weapons to counter strange creatures on a random evening. In this world of Deadlight, the player has the body and soul to stand heart-to-heart against the Divide: a torn world with separate nations standing yet constantly at war thanks to civil estrangement. In addition, while some disastrous occurrences pave the way for more mysterious creatures, others directly give rise to the threat.
Such creatures were born out of supernatural disaster and cannot be killed with mere arms. For that, one shall use a sword as an attack weapon, while the other shall act as a shield, a drone, to assist you in surviving this hostile land.
The game felt so different from when I first started playing it. The enemies were not just random creatures but something that pushed me to figure out how and why they appeared.
With No Maps Leading the Way
Exploration in Hell is Us lacks the maps and markers. There is no compass or mini map to help you, and nor should there be. You explore with your eyes and natural intuition. At one time, I followed a ruined road thinking it would probably lead to nowhere; instead, I stood my own fair share of a fight and a reward. It felt like a personal discovery because no marker forced me to try to fight.
Fighting the Monsters
Fighting in Hell is Us focuses on melee battles. You can use swords, axes, spears, and various attacking styles. However, learning the strategies for this had been key. They did not fall easily! With a drone, you can fight well; be careful! At first, I died over and over again. After I learned their ways, battles became really fun.
