About the Game
Deep Rock Galactic Survivor is a one-player auto-shooter, where players fight nonstop against hordes of alien creeps. You can access the same arsenal from Deep Rock Galactic, but this time, you’re alone with concerns about surviving. It’s one dwarf battling endless waves of monsters while also excavating resources and improving weapons.
I tried it myself, and honestly, the first thing that pops out is the nonstop action. The game throws so many enemies at you, so at times you think it’s impossible to survive, but that’s exactly why it’s exciting.
Reverse Bullet Hell Mixed With Mining
It’s pretty simple, really: blow alien bugs to smithereens, mine caves for minerals, and then convert the minerals into upgrades to your gear. What sets it apart is that it mixes shooter combat with mining. Every cave feels unsafe, yet they keep bringing on more waves of enemies.
From what I’ve seen, no two caves ever seem the same. Procedurally generated makes sure of that. Some runs seemed quite easy, while others threw waves of enemies at me so tough that I had to restart. Keeps things fresh.
Completing Missions
Once you drop into a cave, it’s just you and mission goals. Finish up the objectives before you head back to the pod. Each mission will give you rewards that strengthen your character for the next run.
Sometimes I was very nearly overrun right at the end with the number of enemies that swarmed around me. But once you escape with the loot bag, it feels quite right.
A New Way to Experience Deep Rock Galactic
For the fans of Deep Rock Galactic, they will notice quite a lot of things that make sense here, but this time it’s different because it changed the perspective entirely to a top-down view. This world feels alien, but it’s the same world, just with a different experience.
I played the co-op version before and, while that game’s strength lies in teamwork, Survivor has its charm as well. It is more intimate because at the end of the day, you’re usually alone.

In short, Deep Rock Galactic Survivor is the best game for those survival shooter enthusiasts. It’s tough- especially when the waves keep getting heavier-but that’s what makes it a return attraction. For people who enjoyed the original Deep Rock Galactic with friends, this is a nice approach to enjoying the universe in a completely different style, solo.
