First of all, Endless Legend 2 feels very different from most strategy games I have played. It is about survival, building empires, and having control over the powerful factions in a continually changing world. The world is a fantasy planet, nature is messed up by disasters, and every moment feels like the land itself is shifting and alive.
In the beginning, you build cities and start spreading influence. Creating cities is a great thing, as it not only serves your economy but also has a direct say in the speed at which your faction rises. Strong settlements are armoured with armies to engage the enemy in tactical, turn-based battles. The fights were neither too fast nor too slow; they demanded careful planning. I constantly found myself in dilemmas, whether to expand my empire or build stronger armies.
I think trying out different factions was one of my favorite things in the game. Each faction has its play style. Some act as highborn warriors descending from the stars, others are those cursed knights seeking redemption, and, finally, some just pretty much swarm in numbers to fight. Each has further strengths and weaknesses, which therefore need adjustments in playstyle depending on whom you choose.
It’s that diversity in the game that makes it fun. I remember picking some faction that seemed weak in the early game, but then once I figured out how their economy operated, they turned into a huge powerhouse later in the game. That’s why Endless Legend 2 is interesting and rewarding for trying and learning.
The world itself would also change with time. New regions were made accessible through exploration, and areas revealed some secrets. Some would risk an army’s life by wandering into a new area just to see what was there: a fascinating openness to discovery that kept me playing for hours.
