If you ever wished to feel what it’s like to be Spider-Man, this game gives you that chance. Ultimate Spider-Man looks like a real comic book come to life. The graphics have that hand-drawn comic vibe with a bit of 3D touch to them; the edges pop out. When I first played it, it actually felt like a walk into a Marvel comic.
You can swing freely about the city, move between tall buildings, and explore different downtown areas. The enjoyment of simply gliding about in the vast open world for hours is quite an extraordinary setting. There are several tasks to do: Some jobs involve chasing criminals here and saving people there, and each one gives a somewhat different feel.
One thing I liked a lot was the opportunity to play both Spider-Man and Venom, two very different characters with very contrasting fighting styles. Spider-Man is given to fast-moving, smooth operations, while Venom relies on heavy attacks coupled with strength. I remember switching over to either just to see who finished which mission faster.
There are some great story elements found in the game, especially for those who’ve followed the Ultimate Spider-Man comics. An action game mixed with something like an animated movie.
