News Tower Free Download v1.0.255 allows you to live the life of a poor publisher in New York City in the 1930s. I tried it on my PC, and it just feels different from the usual games. You start small, and then gradually the newspaper grows under your watch. Then, you choose which kind of stories to publish, and believe me, it gets interesting watching how each choice affects your entire tower.
You get to experience a range of things in this game. There are the Prohibition days, stories of the Great Depression, and just random stuff at times, such as someone losing a cat. Fame will not be attached to every story; some may feel simple, but I still found many fun to pick just because it made my newspaper look real.
But yes, one has to watch out. The mafia guys and even the mayor come after you once your paper starts getting some reach. They try to hijack your power to push their version of the truth, and strangely enough, those moments troubled me at times. But that is the beauty of News Tower; every choice becomes a gamble.
Then you also get to cover a lot of the major happenings in the 1930s. The good part is that it is all up to you to decide whether you want to cover or even influence them. Reporters have to bring back hot news before the time runs out; there were times that I missed the deadlines, and I felt bad because old news fetches low value.
Every reporter has their strong topic. If you send them to a place related to what they like, they come back faster. When they cover more topics, they slowly get better at it. Then this helps carve out your entire editorial style. You can chase gossip if your readers are into that. Or you can hunt for harder and serious stories if you are going for truth-based reporting. Personally, I mixed both, as it seemed more realistic.
There are many quests through the news with different ramifications. You pick which side to follow, and each path bears its own risks and rewards; for me, skulking around mafia stories landed me in tight spots and felt like being in a storyline.
You also build your tower and make sure your workers stay happy. Reporters, photographers, janitors, ad staff, lawyers, and everyone else need their own space. Make sure you finish your printing deadlines every Sunday, which often gives me healthy stress. All in all, managing all this together gives the feeling of actually running a real newsroom.
