Aethermancer takes you to Terastae, a land where monsters are facing endless death and rebirth. You are an Aethermancer, a being who can communicate with these monsters and has them fight alongside you. Escorted by a party of three, you engage in tough battles while exploring a vast fantasy world.
On playing, I realized how much strategy plays into performance. One such battle saw me ignoring my monster’s health points and losing him forever. Thereafter, I used a rebirth system to get him back; it came back stronger but with a different skill set. Both frustration and excitement enveloped me.
Gameplay Overview
The game is played in turns; hence, a lot of strategy has to be involved. The four elemental uses of Aether do:
Siphon away enemy Aether and thus weaken enemies
Use poison to tick damage over time
Protect the party from harm through shields
Attack the enemy through elemental affinity to cause maximum damage
Each action matters; one mistake can cause you a monster. Loss can, however, turn into hope with the rebirth system; thus, it is not really the endgame.
Monster Growth And Team Builds
Each monster has a skill pool, which changes depending on your choices and the teammates around it. Leveling up means selecting how your monster grows.
I preferred experimenting with shield and poison combinations. It gave me balance between defense and offense, and coupled with a few tries, I was able to take down some tough bosses. The fun part is that no run feels the same, which in turn makes for an addictive experience.
