I remember the first time I tried Assetto Corsa Rally; I was sitting in a real rally car, for real. The entire game was kept sharp, raw, and every little movement would count. The driving physics are pretty real since this is done by Supernova with help from Kunos Simulazioni. I felt it as soon as my car started skidding on gravel. There is nothing fake about it.
The game is actually based on a physics base from the old Assetto Corsa, but is tuned specifically for rally driving. The visuals come from a top-notch Unreal Engine 5 production, so there are lots of very realistic-looking roads, trees, houses, and weather. Driving during the nighttime really made focusing feel like a necessity due to poor road obstacle drawing.
Assetto Corsa Rally instantly packs the PC with a full rally world. If the weather changes grip, the type of roads, your car, whatever, and you have to practice a lot to learn how to control it. This has been tough when my car spun on damp tarmac while I was actually trying to be careful.
Stages are modeled after real-life venues. Drive on gravel in Wales, or on clean tarmac in Alsace. Each stage is laser-scanned with a voice, and roads feel different from each other. Extremely careful with cars, too. The approach towards the Lancia Delta for the long run made me feel that it is a sweet sound- and handling strike on a real classic.
Official Cars in the game include
Alfa Romeo GTA 1300 Junior Gr.2 from 1972

The game has Triple Screen support, and of course, the whole variety of racing wheels that exist. I have tried it with a simple wheel under very clean force feedback conditions. The physical damage system is 100 percent realistic, as are the sounds that tell you what the car is doing.
There are more than thirty cars planned to be added, more rally places, additional modes, VR support, and even a rally school. Sounds like a long-term program to keep on growing.
For a rally game purist looking for something close to reality, this is worth trying. Patience and practice would make it worthwhile. It is an exercise, but it does achieve that satisfaction when a player starts doing better at it. Staying on the road for more than a minute without crashing already felt like a huge win for me.
