Honestly, I didn’t expect much when I first tried Baby Steps, and it surprisingly surprised me. You are Nate, a guy who neither has a job nor any plans and has nothing much going on in life. Then, he accidentally realizes that one of the most basic powers that he possesses is just walking. Step by step, you control his every move, which I promise you is harder than it sounds.
The whole game moves very, very slowly through a mist-covered world in which each step actually places your own and makes decrepit climbing seem a serious challenge. I was laughing as Nate continually fell and rolled back down the hill. On the same note, there was something very relaxing about just hiking, looking about the environment, and watching small animals move around.
The developers behind this game are the same who created Ape Out and Getting Over It, so if you played those, then you already know this is not an ordinary adventure. It is more like a life lesson wrapped in a weird walking simulation. You cannot do it in haste; you need to have patience and timing.
For a couple of hours, I learned to balance his steps, and honestly, it felt very similar to learning to walk in real life: incredibly frustrating at first but very fun once you get the hang of it.
