Introduction
Some games seem to be special even before you ever get to play them, and Black Myth Wukong certainly feels like one of them. The hype around it was something extraordinary, and, having come to try it out, I could say it truly does live up to all the noise. It is based on the Chinese classic novel Journey to the West, where you play the character of Sun Wukong, the Monkey King.
This was an action game unlike any other, I could tell. The world feels alive, the combat has a heavy skill-based Euro-Japanese slant, and the graphics show another level. If you enjoy games like Elden Ring, Sekiro, or Dark Souls, you’d likely appreciate this one as well.
Black Myth Wukong Gameplay Overview
The gameplay is an action RPG with a lot of focus on timing and skill. Button-mashers will not survive any fights. Patterns are unique to every boss: learn them, or expect to die.
My favorite part is the wide array of skills to be obtained. As Monkey King, these legendary abilities are yours to wield. Transformation skill ranks high on my list; the ability to turn into a giant beast mid-battle was powerful and instantly changed the rhythm of combat.
The staff combat is heavy on feel; when you smash that weapon, you also feel it when landing combos. Some adversaries are difficult and mete out punishments, so every fight maintains an intense atmosphere.
Story and World Design
The plot follows Sun Wukong’s adventures through a mythical world imbued with Chinese folklore. Every location, from the snowy mountains to the fiery temples, stands breathtaking. These graphics are sincerely among the best I have seen in a while.
One thing I have noticed is the magnitude of detail everywhere. Even villages have life-from animal sounds to human chatter-and atmosphere. That sense of exploration is not “vacant” because whatever direction you choose, some hidden item, strong enemy, or an intriguing catch of the story awaits you.

My Personal Experience
To think, the first time I started playing, for thirty minutes of testing, in fact, I went on for nearly four whole hours. It is rewarding with a challenge; after countless attempts to finally beat that relentless foe, the feeling is exceptional.
The magic system also sprinkles in creativity. Using the arts in conjunction with staff combo attacks makes combat even more engaging. Some of the battles required a complete turnabout in strategy, and that’s what kept me really engaged.
It feels like the game has the huge sandbox motif of Elden Ring married to the precise combat of Sekiro. If you enjoy games, hitting skills, and patience, you’d probably love it.

Beginner’s Guide
Learn your enemies. Bosses hit hard, but once you learn their moves, it’ll be easier for you.
Keep upgrading your skills. Unlocking transformation early gives you a considerable edge.
Don’t rush through with exploration. Many areas hold useful upgrades and items.
Magic is best used in tandem with other skills. Some enemies are pretty resistant to melee, so be sure to mix in some spells.
