Beyond: Two Souls is actually one of those games that feels like living through someone else’s life. I remember sitting down to play it and being pretty much pulled into the world of Jodie Holmes right from the start. The story, the characters, and the choices you make ensure that it’s a life-like experience, one that is real and unforgettable.
One Life, Two Souls
There’s a psychological action-adventure game with Elliot Page and Willem Dafoe starring in it. The playing of Jodie Holmes, who finds herself in a strange bond with a mysterious entity known as Aiden, is shared. Being different makes everything for her; being different has made everything extremely difficult and intense in equal measure for Jodie. Playing her reminded me almost like watching a movie, but with people passed on to decide what happens next.
Your choices in the game affect Jodie’s journey. It was insane for me to think how even trivial choices could be the cause for Jodie to have such entirely different experiences. You get to see her face danger, loss, and the mystery of her own identity while juggling the control of her soul with that of Aiden.
Make Your Own Story
The very interactive aspect of the game that allows you to determine your setting through your actions was something that appealed to me greatly. Sometimes they would lead to exhilarating moments in the action, and sometimes they would result in emotional moments that hit very, very close; the connection of Jodie with Aiden brought yet another layer of strategy and excitement to the game, as you would alternate between them to solve challenges.
Further Challenges with DLC Missions
This PC version includes the original DLC missions created for PlayStation. It can be played on two difficulty levels, either in Solo or Duo Mode. I tried Duo for the first time, which was a different take on how you interact with Aiden while playing through the game. It adds more depth and fun to the already engrossing narrative.
