Crono, a young swordsman, stumbles upon a mysterious girl called Marle at an exciting festival in Guardia Kingdom. An unfortunate time machine malfunction ends up sending Marle centuries back into the past; Crono goes after her, and there begins a saga that will take him through many eras from ancient cultures to a desolate future. There, he prevails upon allies, combats excruciating foes, and discovers an impending peril to destroy time itself.
