Coal LLC is an indie simulation and strategy game, where you engage in a virtual coal mining business. In the beginning, you have just a flimsy pick and a few meek miners. The idea is to build, step by step: dig, hire, and upgrade tools to accomplish the required amount of coal each day. Fail one day, and your factories won’t get enough coal.
I recently played it on my laptop, and it works like a charm due to the small size of this game. I liked that every day, a new mine appeared to be dug and not just the same site. This gives some variety to maybe explore on every occasion.
Game Mechanics
Coal LLC somewhat merges simulation and strategy gameplay. The more you dig, the more coal is found. However, the next thing you know, the ground is weakening under your expansion. This truly puts things in perspective. Then there are the insane amounts of miners you can employ: from hiring a million to billions. I went crazy with the numbers, and, honestly, it looked really crazy to have so many little characters running around collecting coal with plenty of animation.
You promote different employees into other roles; some become better at digging, some become better at carrying, and others provide better bonuses. So, although the game looks straightforward, there are still some management decisions to make.

My Thoughts
Coal LLC is something you’d play while relaxing and having fun with numbers. It’s not complex, but it keeps you busy with digging and hiring.
