Survival is a game in the world of Conan the Barbarian. It allows an online multiplayer experience, cooperation, and solo play modes, so it gives you the choice of how you want to soak it all in. The world is a giant open sandbox where you can survive, craft, fight, and build. The deserts and snowy mountains of this very alive and dangerous map add natural effects to the feeling.
It sickens me to think that the first time I tried this game and then got addicted to the idea of building a base very close to a river. Initially, I thought I could make a very small hut, but soon, I was grinding away for stone and wood to put it together into a proper fortress. And, most of all, I enjoy the fact that it really forces you to survive. I remember freezing up north without proper armor, and later getting cooked in the desert sun until I figured out how to cool down. It felt tough but rewarding.
Survive in the Exiled Lands
Life is what this game is all about. Eating, drinking, and maintaining your home are life necessities. Oftentimes, sandstorms would just come out of nowhere and take you out if you were not prepared. The weather was another enemy.
Corruption is another evil. A little too long spent inside dark ruins-to-sit-and-your-character-starts-being-upgraded-this-makes-exploration-of-dungeons-risky-that-is-where-the-good-loot-is. Ignored the warning of just pushing through; ended with stamina trouble; barely made it out.
Building System
One of the interesting things about Conan Exiles is building something from the start small camp, bigger and bigger, till you have it not ending, but endlessly called a small town. The system concentrates on walls, defenses, restarts, and elevators. I personally find it quite enjoyable to include furniture and crafting stations to decorate my base-it is your ‘own place’.
It gets better with the clan system if they have been built with friends. That’s the stuff you want to build cities together, then defend in wars against other people-that should make the game last quite long.
Combat and Sorcery
Combat is heavy and brutal. Swords, axes, bows, or even siege weapons can be used for large-scale battles. In addition, sorcery is now part of the game, which makes battles even more unpredictable. They’re summoned by giant avatars of the gods. They literally smash entire enemy bases in seconds. The first time I saw one, it was insane, like watching a boss fight but in PvP.
