Without warning, Deadzone: Rogue drops you into the trouble. You wake up on a huge space station called the ISS-X. There is nothing that reminds you of yourself; you don’t know your name, your mission, and definitely you don’t know why there are killer machines crawling all over the place. Even before you can catch your breath, alarms start blasting out, and there’s a rush of rogue robots rolling in.
I first thought I could run and hide in a corner until it all cleared up. Bad idea. Drones found me before I even had a chance to reload, and before anything could be done, I’d lost almost all of my health. This game never gives you a chance to take a breather.
Survive the Deadzone
Each sector is filled with various dangers, including engine rooms, crew quarters, storage, and brig areas. You will face biomechanical bosses that can be beaten only with skill and patience in between encounters with hunter-drones, robotic spiders, and many machines that never let up.
The combat system itself is what caught me. Over 30 weapons exist, and every weapon can be upgraded with elemental effects in Deadzone: Rogue. A shotgun can easily be converted into a void blaster to take out whole groups in a single shot, while a submachine gun can be altered into an ice sprayer to freeze enemies in their place. Heavy plasma cannons, sniper rifles, or any type of weapon could fall under any play style.
Elemental Combat That Feels Powerful
Fire burns the drones into bits. Ice slows a swarm and picks them all off one by one. Lightning jumps between enemies to do massive damage. Void just erases them from the fight. Personally, I like freezing enemies first, then going lightning for the kill. It just feels so satisfying.
Why Deadzone: Rogue is Up to Download on PC
Those who enjoy speed-action games with a little twist of roguelike will really enjoy this one. Due to the weapon upgrades and enemy patterns, every run would feel different. Even a loss teaches me something new for the next try.
