It felt like I was right there in a small adventuring table when I played Demeo x Dungeons and Dragons Battlemarked on my PC for the first time. The overall feel is very classic D&D, but remade in a simple digital form. There’s a fun, fantasy feel without confusing things, which is great, even for newcomers to such games.
This game presents the experience of Dungeons and Dragons in a turn-based world board like the one set inside the Forgotten Realms. You lead a band of heroes as they go on numerous missions, wherever, so slowly you get to the threats and tales. I really liked how, somehow, all characters feel different. You can have paladin, sorcerer, ranger, fighter, bard, and rogue classes. It really reminded me of back when I used to play DND with my cousins and everyone picked their own favorite roles.
The game generally uses turn-based combat, which means you consider before making a move. You find different cards that depict your actions. Sometimes I combine two abilities and surprise myself. Also, a new look gives each turn, ammunition changing, and certainly exciting during long gaming.
The interesting part is: you can play with others, up to four players may be brought in play. I tried this out with my friend, and we were super casual, just discussing where to move next or which enemy to hit. It all felt natural and fun. However, you are also able to bring your entire team by yourself in skirmish mode if it does not appeal to you.
Replayable journeys can be undertaken, and changing maps makes for no boring games. Places that are explored include Neverwinter Wood, Cragmaw Castle, and Spine of the World. At the moment, two campaigns exist, with further content planned. Each restart makes me feel refreshed.
