About F.E.A.R
F.E.A.R, First Encounter Assault Recon, is one of those games I remember playing over and over late at night, alone, with the lights off and headphones on. Unlike your average shooter, it blends horror and action into a constant state of edginess.
The story starts with a secret military dive into a huge aerospace facility. They take hostages but say nothing about what they want. A Special Forces team is sent in, only to be completely decimated. The video shows something almost unnatural, a wave passing through them. After that, the government calls in the F.E.A.R team to handle this strange threat. The mission is simple: to find out what is going on and stop it.
When I first played it, there were moments that I genuinely paused just to compose myself. The ghostly girl, Alma, sent chills down my spine every time she appeared.
F.E.A.R Extraction Point
It picks up from the original premise. The F.E.A.R. team is trying to escape in a helicopter, but ends up crashing instead. And now you are stuck in the city where chaos reigns, and where Alma and her paranormal creatures will be waiting. You must carve a way through all that searching for an escape.
I remember this one section of Extraction Point where I just froze with everything dark when the enemies just sprang up from nowhere. I think that was one of the scariest moments I’ve ever experienced in gaming.
F.E.A.R Perseus Mandate
While Team One is fighting for its own survival, another F.E.A.R. team has been dispatched to dig deeper into the secrets of Armacham Technology Corporation. This expansion sheds light on more of the hidden experiments taking place at the ATC facilities. You play as a member of this second team, delving into the corporation’s darker side.
The multiplayer for this expansion is not active anymore, but it carried the weight of its single-player story. I personally enjoyed the new areas and new enemies, which gave me more motivation to go back to the game.
