Firefighting Simulator Ignite is a simulation computer game for every US and Midwestern citizen, and one’s life as a firefighter. Dangerous tasks of putting out different kinds of fires, saving people from terrible doom, and managing emergencies, which all change from time to time, will put the player in challenging situations.
It blew me away when I first played it. The fire and smoke are very realistic. It runs on Unreal Engine 5, and really, the flames appear to have their own mind. If you thought all it involves is holding a hose and spraying water, you’re dead wrong because every mission presents its own unique challenge with strategic requirements.
Experience Gaming
So you can play it in single player or multiplayer. When you play alone, though, NPC teammates will support you, but to be honest, it’s so much better playing with friends. I had one session with two of my school friends, where we had to rescue victims who were trapped in a building with a fire in an apartment. It was so thrilling when smoke filled the rooms and we had to break down the doors before anything came down.
The various fires range from electrical fires to grease fires in kitchens, some flammable liquids, and sometimes even big explosions. What I love is that you have to use the right tool and the right tactic. I once had water on a fire that it wasn’t meant for, and made it worse.
Tools and Vehicles
You were rewarded with real firefighting tools: hoses, axes, saws, extinguishers, and the Halligan bar. The fire engines and ladder trucks are also faithfully recreated. These trucks are modeled after Rosenbauer vehicles, and they really add to the immersion.
I found this ventilation strategy so interesting; one sorts it out, so if you don’t create airflow the right way, thus causing the smoke to pile up, and thus, the fire spreads much worse. One small mistake in that can lead to flashovers or backdrafts, and those will be fatal functions even in the game.
Fire Station Hub
Some downtime is experienced between missions in the fire station hub. This one serves as a person’s hub: hang out, view the different fire vehicles, check out equipment, and prep for the next emergency. Enjoyable was my time spent here, as it relieves the suffering brought by missions and seems part of a firefighter’s job in real life.
