Fresh Tracks Overview
Fresh Tracks combines music and gameplay in a very different way than most games that I have played. Everything in action is rhythmic, not just random button mashing and fighting. The song plays loudly and is what the world listens to and reacts to. Trying it initially, I perceived the feeling, even with small body movements, that it was part of a song.
Norse mythology gives the story, where you meet the Mythics, gods represented with music and narration. This makes the game alive because of the voice actors. Peter Stormare and Michael Antonakos gave the game a serious mood so that the playing feels like being inside a film and not just a game.
One of the reasons I kept on playing was its roguelite element. Every start of the run would be somewhat different. Sometimes I failed early in my runs, got something that made my next try easier or just more fun. It always pushes you forward without getting tedious.
Then, of course, there’s the soundtrack: with 28 songs in various styles, the music constantly morphs and responds to your moves. It’s fairly rare for games to make me feel like I’m indeed part of a live concert while taking down enemies, but Fresh Tracks does that.

What I have come across
I downloaded Fresh Tracks for the sake of trying it, but it consumed an entire weekend. I was a little skeptical about the music-focused game, but after a few runs, I got pulled in. The combination of beat and fighting makes it really addictive. If you like roguelite games, or just music in terms of actual gameplay as opposed to background noise, this one is definitely worth trying.
