Gemporium is a basic and entertaining simulation about mining gems by running a small gem store all alone. The story begins when you receive news that your Grandmole is taking a vacation, and you are suddenly thrust in charge of her store. Sounds easy; well, not very easy, as you come to find a huge debt draining the shop. Now, you have to strain hard to keep the business running and also watch that the Loan Shark does not appear to go angry.
The clock generally runs inside the game for each day, and you have to choose how to spend your time. Do you go deeper into the mines to collect rarer gems, or do you spend time refining stones already in your collection? I remember I was trying to spend more time mining at the beginning, but once I saw my uncut gems sell for dirt cheap, I started balancing my day between mining and polishing.
Gems found in mines come across various gemstones; some are common, while others are rare. The rare ones are worth so much, but only if cautiously mined with no breaking. The right combination of tool and opportunity here could really work wonders. I remember uncautiously mishandling a very showy gem once and cracking it; it felt a little sore seeing that drop in price.
Refining earns you the big bucks. It feels good to take the rough stones and turn them into polished gems, for customers will pay so much more for them. Running the store is fun too: you can display your gems and see customers coming in to buy them.
