Heat or Die is no ordinary walk in the woods. You start losing your way in an expansive wilderness with nothing but flares shining from your partner to guide your way. At the beginning of the game, it seems manageable, but then, when the cold sets in and the Wendigo shows up, everything changes.

The fire becomes your lifeline. Your torch keeps you warm, keeps the monster away, and gives you a chance to survive. However, the flame burns out quickly. When that happens, you have to scramble for matches and light campfires, or it’s over. I still remember panicking when my torch died right as I heard footsteps in the dark. It felt too real.

The campfire is the only safe place. It recharges your torch, warms you up, and gives you a moment to breathe. But those flames die immediately; the whole forest becomes silent. Even under such silence, the faintest noise can be your end. If the Wendigo hears you, you won’t get another shot.

Stay out too long in the cold, and your body shuts down, plain and simple. This game doesn’t allow for second chances; there’s no saving. Every mistake is a run-ending experience. Most sessions last anywhere from fifteen minutes to an hour, considering how long you can manage to survive. One craziest feature is that you can literally hear the game through your mic; if you cough, talk, or even breathe too loudly, the Wendigo reacts. Alone, it’s pretty high tension, adding surprise jumpscares, and you’re probably going to jump out of your chair like I did.
