Overview of Island Notes
I don’t think I had ever anticipated Island Notes to live up to such an expectation during my first run. The game sets off with a yacht trip gone horribly wrong. The yacht sinks, leaving you to fend for yourself on a giant island that is alive in every sense. After that point, it is all about survival and making choices: do you keep to yourself, or do you try to help others?
Island Notes differs from most survival games in the sense that it’s more than just food and danger. There are layers of farming, crafting, fishing, and even pet taming! And romance and relationship-building gave the game depth that I honestly did not expect.
The island is immense, and the exploration has become quite high on my list of favorites in this game. Caves to explore, ruins to find, and secret paths all over. Pretty much everything around you is useful; gather stuff from the environment, and it plays some role in crafting or survival.
The NPCs are really something else in Island Notes; they do not just stand there like mere background characters. They eat, cook, gather resources, and even help fight alongside you. I truly noticed them sometimes checking on my character when things got rough, which somehow made it feel like they actually cared. Develop some relationships with them, and that unlocks outfits and begins giving characters personalities, which in turn makes the entire world feel very interconnected.
Of course, the usual survival features are there. Build bases, plant crops, raise pets, craft weapons, or tools. The creatures in the varied environments on the island all fight differently. The battle can become intense, especially when the fighting style is forced on you because of the terrain.
There is a plethora of weaponry. I switched axes, spears, bows, and even guns; I made the game entertaining! Gathering tools, like shovels or sickles, helped to gather resources. Best of all, I could do anything I wanted; I could spend an hour getting crops or just wander into areas and caves to see what there was to find.

After playing, I can say that Island Notes is more than just a survival game. It feels like a mix of adventure, friendship, crafting, and combat all in one. If you enjoy open-world survival games where every object has value and exploration never ends, I recommend giving this one a try!
