To quickly summarize, I played Little Nightmares for the first time, and nothing before or since had given me that ominous chill. That feeling of being small and trapped and on the constant edge of fear is both scary and beautiful. The new Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition looks a lot better and feels incredibly enhanced.
With a twist to the story, Little Nightmares Enhanced Version brings the original story to life once again. Choose between Quality Mode and Performance Mode. I personally went for Performance Mode for the greatest smoothness, but Quality Mode will be better if you enjoy eye-candy. Everything is sharper and livelier, especially with the RTX reflections and lighting that bring out all the darks.
The water effects and particle effects add a lot of extra punch to the environment. There’s also a bit of hand-holding to keep your experience flowing. If you have never played Little Nightmares before, now would be the sweet spot to begin.
About the Game
You play as Six, a little kid trapped in a big, malevolent ship nicknamed The Maw. The entire realm is crawling with twisted, nightmarish grown-ups. Your only intent is to escape before they grab hold of you.
The moment you wake up in a dark, wet room, clenching a lighter in the palm of your hand, you sense a feeling of disorientation and fear. You don’t know where you are or how you got there, but one thing is clear-you must get out before something terrible happens.
Explore and Survive
This world isn’t one for kids. You’ll have to be clever and use your small size to your advantage. Climb drawers, crawl through tiny openings, and use every ground of imagination to remain in hiding.
I once remember getting stuck in a kitchen, trying my best to sneak past one of those creepy cooks. My heart went into overdrive as I hid under a table, just praying he wouldn’t look beneath it. That is what makes this game so great-everything felt real.
Avoid the Residents
The people living in The Maw are definitely not your friends. They have only one plan for children, and trust me, it is not good. Move smoothly, hide often, and do not make noise. Now and then, you can throw something to divert their attention, but one inappropriate sound and they are upon you. The moment they mark you, you’d better run.
When To Run
There come moments when you will just have to ditch hiding and run. The tension that comes with those moments is so insane. Your heart is racing as you dash down dark hallways, praying for safety before they grab you.
If you do manage to slip away, the feeling of relief is so real. After every single time I just barely sneaked past a tricky bit, I had to take a deep breath and pull myself together-it’s that immersive.
