METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER is not another remake. It just grabbed METAL GEAR SOLID 3, the classic of the year 2004, and remade it through. Unreal Engine 5 makes up for the Cold War jungle setting with graphics and 3D sound that make you hear every step, bird call, and enemy movement.
I remember playing the original on an old machine of mine. Graphics were impressive back then, but now, seeing Snake crawl through some swamps in the remake on my computer, I’m seeing things anew. It’s like the game I loved matured just as I did.
The Story
It’s the Cold War in the 1960s. Naked Snake, you are sent behind enemy lines into the Soviet Union to extract Sokolov, a scientist. That’s when things go horribly wrong, when Snake’s mentor, The Boss, turns to Colonel Volgin. Everything changes after that event, and Sokolov ends up captured.
The period of one week is granted to Snake; it is his second chance. Earlier, his task was simple; now it is more complex. Not merely fetching Sokolov but also meeting The Boss is at stake. This confrontation between student and teacher is among the more emotional segments of the whole work: not only stealth but loyalty and deceit are issues.
While playing the remake, I did actually stop for a second at that sequence. I got hit in the gut the same as I did all those years ago, only now I felt it even more, facing The Boss with all this new animation and music.
Features of the Remake
Transformed visuals: The jungles, swamps, and enemy camps look like real places through Unreal Engine 5.
Lifelike characters: Everything in each cut-scene comes alive, right from Snake’s scars and sweat to even those minute movements across his face.
Classic gameplay: smooth modern feel of stealth, close combat, and survival.
True to life audio: 3D sound adds another dimension to gameplay. You can easily tell by sound alone where enemies are, just like that.

Why You Should Play It
If you never played the original, this remake is the most excellent way to experience Big Boss’s origin story. And even if, like me, you’ve played it before, it’s the opportunity to relive one of the finest stealth adventures in new technology to make every moment feel fresh once again.
For me, the whole survival concept always struck me. Hunting animals, now managing stamina and healing wounds, seemed a unique aspect back then, and even today, it still holds.
