Imagine a zombie apocalypse, but this isn’t just another zombie game; top-down, brutal games are set with survival mechanics to keep you on your toes. Saints of the Fallen Cross is about scavenging, fighting, and avoiding death in an almost everything wants you dead universe.
Play solo or join with other offline people, via LAN, P2P, or Steam. There’s no hand-holding here; you will scavenge for supplies, upgrade your hideout, learn skills, and may even have the option of helping or betraying fellow survivors, all just for the chance of survival.
One cool thing? Progress is saved automatically, so any time you and your crew want, you can jump back in. The biggest struggle would be figuring out how to slot particular supplies into your inventory, as there is a literal puzzle-like mechanics on how to fit supplies inside your backpack, and the more you bring, the slower you move. Easy but makes you consider what to pick and what not to hoard from the ground.
Combat and Customization
You get to tweak your survivor’s look and gear, switching between melee combat to guns, depending on the situation. One moment you will be smashing some zombies with a pipe, while another moment you will be lining up a sniper shot. With traps, grenades, and ways of tricking zombies to waltz into hazards, it is entirely under your control.
The skill tree is enormous, so you can create your character however you like: stealthy scavenger, heavy-hitting tank, or tactical mastermind, all up to you. Furthermore, a story course will involve the survival through quests, dialogue choices, and a journal tracking your decisions, so it’s not just mindless gunning.
Base Building and Survival
A major aspect of gameplay is base building. From the quick construction of a simple safe house to the detailed design of a full operational fortress. Walls, campfires, workbenches, you name it. But nothing stands forever; structures decay over time, so you will be involved in patching them up or tearing them down when needed.
Not just construction the ability to pick locks to access restricted areas, farm your food, cut wood, or even dig for buried loot. The sound design is top-notch too, footsteps shifting based on means of movement, and the atmospheric ambiance seals the deal for a grim end-of-the-world vibe.
The Zombies (And Other Threats)
The zombies are not mindless drones; they respond, swarm, and the spawn system keeps the pressure on you. Moreover, there are NPC survivors who mind their business. To make your life even harder, some areas of the map are marked with poisonous gas, environmental traps, and various other ways to die if you aren’t paying attention. Saints of the Fallen Cross doesn’t joke around; every decision, every bullet gets meaningful, and life is never really assured.
