SWAPMEAT is a wild co-op action roguelite game in which every alien you beat transforms your body and makes you stronger in very strange ways. It’s a game in which you go through different alien worlds, collecting mutant body parts, and surviving nonstop waves of enemies. It’s not just about shooting; it’s about staying alive for a long time to evolve.
The game takes you to the middle alien planets, full of weird enemies and also very deadly robots. You work for one of the huge companies named Rangus Meats, which caused havoc within the galaxy and spread aliens and mutants all over the planets. You are now part of the cleanup efforts, meaning you’re blasting through monsters and collecting meat samples just to survive.
Gameplay Experience
The first time I played SWAPMEAT, I couldn’t believe how chaotic it was in the best possible way. For every bad alien I killed, I’d get the option of using their body parts as weapons. It sounds kind of gross, but it’s pretty awesome, too. You could have legs that allow for triple jumps, a torso that drops mini turrets, or even a head that shoots grenades. Each battle feels different because your body keeps changing.
The fun part is that you can replace parts in battle at any point. No pause, no break – just pure wham-bam. After switching to on-the-fly limb swapping, I managed to find myself surviving considerably longer and racking up combos that felt really powerful. Sometimes I’d obtain a head that could shoot in every direction, and it was a lifesaver with aliens closing in on all sides.
Fast and Wild Combat
SWAPMEAT’s combat is fast-paced and barely gives the player a break. It seemed to me as though it could have come straight out of one of the old-school games I used to play when everything was really fast-paced, and if you were to think quickly, you’d do well: Quake 3 and Serious Sam. You will also sense that same feeling if you’ve played games like Risk of Rain 2 or Helldivers 2, save for the added madness of body-swapping.
You never really get time to rest. Some new jumps at you every few seconds. I found myself dodging, shooting, and swapping parts constantly just to remain in the game. It’s messy, crazy, and so much fun when you get into that groove.
They didn’t really great job making it feel like there was always something bank between you and the edge of your life. You just never know what forthcoming weird alien. Some drop parts that completely alter your build, and figuring out what’s fun is part of it.
Real-Time Mutations
One of the coolest aspects of SWAPMEAT is that it’s possible to mutate during the action. Every time a new piece is added, it alters your style of playing. I think one could call it an experiment with 3,000 mixed body parts (the game stated that 3,000 types were available).
Some parts give you more speed, while others make you stronger or better defended. My favorite combo was Squat Daddy legs for the height of my slams and having a Stellar Chef torso that gave my squad shields. That felt great when everyone had bizarre-looking body builds and indeed complemented each other’s synergy in co-op.

My Thoughts
SWAPMEAT seems to be one of those games that gets better the longer you play. At first, it feels like utter madness, but when you understand how swapping works, it becomes pretty addictive. The co-op aspect makes it so much better when you’re messing around with your friends and toying around with crazy builds.
It’s not a very beefy game, but it packs a punch. If you’re a fan of roguelite shooters that don’t take themselves too seriously and encourage a constant sense of movement, this one’s for you.
