Overview of The Dead Await Game
A hybrid survival RPG with card-based combat set in a world teetering on the edge of collapse amid thousands of zombies, The Dead Await looks and feels terribly wrong. Ruins of cities, empty streets, everywhere bodies, it’s that bad.
You play the role of a caravan leader tasked with leading your entourage through a wasteland, discovering what really happened to this world, and somehow managing to keep everyone alive. The frightening thing is that zombies are not the only threat; human beings can be even more unpredictable and dangerous.
Every expedition is about collecting food, fuel, and water while roaming through the ruins of towns. Some may stumble upon friendly survivors; others may walk into betrayals. That creeping uncertainty. And to make it all harder, survival means not just bodily sustenance. They have to battle fear, hunger, and the stress that mounts on the members of their crew.
An expedition I was on when I’d been low on supplies was a special one during which I considered this gas station a lucky break. But one of my guys lost it under stress and refused to fight. That little moment reminded me of how important mental pressure actually was in that game.
Build Your Character
You get to build your survivor in many better ways. Be a lockpicker going through danger, or go full-on fighting, smashing through the zombies. Combat is all about cards, adjusting the deck to fit the situation. On every trip, your crew learns skills that empower them and give them authority over their opponents.
The weapons and mods also change your combat style. For example, a simple weapon can be turned into one hell of a killer, and that customization of your loadout simply becomes a fun mini-game.
Your caravan as a base
The caravan isn’t only for transport. It’s your lifeline. You can upgrade it to become a mobile base with storage, crafting, and survival workspaces. Switching out parts like engines and tires helps you to brave various dangerous regions. Cooking meals, crafting weapons, and raising morale all occur in the living-moving shelter. And, of course, nothing beats the nail-biting classic when those zombies really close in.
Survive Beyond
While survival aids keep you afloat daily, The Dead Await envelopes you into feeling as if you’re walking toward something bigger. In this game, not only do you keep alive, but you also try to build a future amidst the ruins around you; this is what sets The Dead Await apart.
