I recently played The House of Tesla, a new game by Blue Brain Games, the same people behind The House of Da Vinci. If they were into the same puzzle design, they would probably find this one interesting as well. The game really feels fresh while at the same time still offering the brain-torturing satisfaction.
When I first started to play it, I thought that I was amazed by how unbelievably real the world looked. You get to peek at the world from the viewpoint of Nikola Tesla himself, the mastermind of alternating current and one of the biggest names in science. The puzzles feel handcrafted, and one actually has to stop and think instead of busting through.
The places are hauntingly beautiful. Walking through empty industrial halls was reminiscent of staying up really late at night playing puzzle games in the darkness. The game weaves its story around Wardenclyffe, an ambitious venture of Tesla, very much intended to change the way people use electricity forever. As I roamed, I could see moments of glory and the demise of Tesla’s famous Wardenclyffe Tower. Honestly, the whole mix of curiosity and sorrow was there because, almost, I was unearthing some secrets that were left behind in real history.
My Experience Playing
At some point, I was stuck on a mechanism puzzle for nearly 30 minutes, trying to make sense of how it fitted in. So much anguish, so much reward when it finally clicked. I loved that the game does not rush you. If you are one for picking away at your patience and logic rather than pure reaction time, this game is worth it.
