All there’s to do in The Riftbreaker is build a working portal back to Earth. Sounds easy, right? Not in the game. It’s quite a challenge, putting up solar panels and expecting everything to work by itself doesn’t cut it. You have to get into mining for resources and have your processed materials, and ready set energy plants, and research new technology to be anywhere near close to finishing it. On the first attempt, I thought rushing through would work, but the game forced me into slow, careful building.
Keep Yourself Alive Through Your Defense
One quick lesson I learned was that, on this planet, the whole world doesn’t want you on it. The more buildings you have placed, the more aggressive the local life becomes. I will always remember the time I built a refinery without any walls, and it probably lasted two minutes before a swarm came through and destroyed it. Therefore, I always surround anything vital to me with layers of walls, turrets, and barriers. The attacks get worse as time goes by, and sometimes it feels as if thousands of creatures are coming at once. That bit is stressful, but at the same time thrilling.
Exploration Over the Planet
Galatea 37 is the planet where The Riftbreaker happens. It is situated in the Sycorax belt. The map has several regions, and they all look different with different types of weather and wildlife. Really, I enjoy wandering into countries since I get to discover what types of creatures or rare minerals I would find in them. Some zones may be dangerous with storms and aggressive animals, while others are calm but resource-rich. Outposts are really useful in those areas since they can gather materials and send them back through rift portals.

The Riftbreaker joins base-building survival in a way not many games manage to do. It shoved much of your planning into combining defense while taking into full account exploration. The fights get intense, it makes exploration rewarding, and finishing up the portal feels like a real accomplishment. If you’re into survival strategy games but with some action combat thrown in there, then this might be worth the download.
