The Witcher is one of those role-playing games that can get you really into a dark fantasy world. It is not only about fighting monsters but also involves all the hard decisions you have to make as Geralt of Rivia. Good and evil are often not very clear in this world; therein lies the difference from other RPGs.
I still remember the time I played it first time on my old college computer. It was denser than most games I had played so far, and I kept sitting up late to find out what would happen with a different dialogue option. The choices did make me feel a little guilty at times, but that’s the charm. It really felt like each choice mattered.
What Differentiates The Enhanced Edition
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition took many elements of the original release and polished them into something more than just a re-release: improvements in the dialogues, gameplay, and technical features.
Stronger dialogue and cutscenes: More than 5000 lines of dialogue were rewritten and re-recorded, making conversations naturalistic. For me, this made the characters feel more alive, particularly during those lengthy story moments.
Better inventory: It had a dedicated space for alchemy items, plus a stack-and-sort function, so managing stuff was much easier. I hated messy inventories back then, so this came as a real relief.
Technical upgrades: Shorter loading times, fewer crashes, smoother combat, and even speedier access to inventories. You could even leave auto-save on or off, depending on what you preferred.
Variety in NPCs and monsters: The game added more randomized looks for characters, so you would not see the same faces again and again. It made the world feel less repetitive.

My Experience Playing The Witcher
Playing The Witcher Enhanced Edition on PC was truly one of the most memorable gaming memories I have. The story just completely captured me to the point where I lost time. The alchemy system, while difficult at first, actually gave me some playtime because I had to think about it ahead of time before going to battle.
The fighting was not as smooth as what you would find in most of today’s RPGs, but once one learned the rhythm-based attacks, it really felt good. Then, when it came to moral choices…let’s just say most of the time I ended up reloading saves because I didn’t feel good about my decisions. That’s how real the game felt.
