Ever wondered what it would be like to cut your path through dark Tokyo alleys with a katana in hand? Enter Tokyo Underground Killer, wherein you play the infamous “Shinjuku Vampire” Kobayashi, slaying dangerous criminals and monsters for a price. I have been playing it for the last week, and the katana combat, honestly, hooked me right from the beginning.
Katana Fighting that Hits Hard
The combat is quick and precise. Slash enemies, stab them, and parry while dodging attacks from them. Some of the monsters are based on old Japanese demons, and they can really make you test your reflexes. Once, I got trapped in Shibuya, shooting my way out of there barely. It feels very, very intense.
Blood Powers Are Primary
Your health relies on blood, as well as your skills. There are 10 completely different blood skills available, and sucking enemy blood keeps you alive. I loved the experimentation aspect of those powers. It feels pretty good to combo and fill up on blood skills.
A Neon Tokyo Was Born
Everything about Tokyo in the game is pure neon chaos. Shinjuku, Akihabara, and Shibuya teem with life, lights, and creepy back alleys. Walking through the city at night made me feel like I really was there. The atmosphere is just insane.
Hang Out Between Quests
Yes, when you’re not playing, you can chill around your apartment in Shinjuku. I set mine up in a sort of casual atmosphere and played mini-games, which let me explore the city hub. It gave the place life, not just a battlefield, but a shopping place with decorating options for leisure before getting in the thick of it again.
Get Stronger
Pick a decent upgrade for your ability to be unstoppable. The more fights you participate in, the stronger you become, unlocking powers along the way. I spent countless hours trying out different upgrades and finding the best combinations that work for various enemies.
Comic-style Storytelling
The story is weird and interesting, filled with amazing characters, and shown in hand-drawn comic scenes by Hans “Heavy Metal Hanzo” Steinbach. I really liked the feeling of being inside a comic book that comes alive.
Epic Soundtrack
Every fight receives excitement from Andrew Hulshult’s music. Electronic tracks, more than two hours long, give a cinematic feel to exploring the streets of Tokyo and fighting monsters. I mostly put my headphones on while playing since it feels much more intense. You may also be interested in: Yasha: Legends of the Demon Blade Free Download (v1.0.1)
