Whisper of the House is a delightful simulation casual game, somewhere between light cleaning, decorating, and story discovery. It’s set in a little quiet town where everywhere is always something new.
The very first time I tried this game, I thought it was just about rearranging furniture. But I quickly learned that one part of it is a whole lot more; it’s not just organizing stuff. It’s about piecing together fragments of people’s lives. A neglected letter, a forgotten photo, or perhaps even a toy abandoned in the corner reveals a little bit about the person who lived.
Gameplay and Experience
You play the resident helper of the town. Your job is to clean houses, sometimes with small decorations, such as preparing shops for new owners. Some tasks are as mundane as searching for a lost cat or wiping dust from an old clock, while others include bigger ones, such as fully designing rooms.
What makes it really fun is the freedom to design the spaces however you want. There was one time I spent a good half an hour just shifting a plant around until it felt right. Just like how sometimes I move things around in my own room til it feels cozy.
There are also tons of little surprises sprinkled throughout. I turned a lever on a gramophone, and instantly I had music. I pulled a tissue out of a box, just for the heck of it, and I giggled at squeezing a rubber duck in the bathroom. These lovely little details make Whisper of the House come alive.
Storylines
Whisper Town has manned the hints inside everyone’s lives. There can be a picture left in a hospital room, an abandoned workshop, and other such things. Moments like these relate puzzles to little stories, giving the game a lot more substance than just cleaning or arranging.
It’s calm, relaxing, and has a little touch of mystery. One really wants to complete every task in the game, just to see what comes next.
